Looking back on the inland side of the Los Padres National Forest, you can see the badlands stretching off into the distance.
Hiking along a spur of the Reyes Peak trail near the Sespe Wilderness, I caught a glimpse of this splash of light through a rock crevice illuminating a path down the mountainside. Along the splash thrived many tiny flowers on the only part of the hill to get all-day light and, likely, water runoff from the crevice above.
